"Your eyes are the windows to your soul." Well, shit. Chronic pain has eaten away parts of my soul that I hope to one day repair. And on any given day, you can probably see the tracks of my tears, because even on a good day, the pain breaks me. But, I still have things to do. I have kids to pick up and maybe some errands or housework that have been put off until they can't be put off any longer (i.e. no more clean chonis or forks). You probably thought that meant I'm going to do dishes and laundry - that's cute. I will place a drive-up order at Target for a couple pairs of chonis and a box of plastic forks. And, in an hour, I will need to leave the house. My daughter braided my hair, so that's done. I can throw on my tinted moisturizer and lip gloss, but no matter how much industrial concealer I use, my eyes look ... like death. I am tired and I hurt. But I have to get out of the house today. My saving grace: mirrored sunglasses. My personal favorite are Quay brand, and I scooped this pair up for $20 at Nordstrom Rack. Heck ya. Just look at the difference! I swear that I can "fake it til I make it" in these for days! I just wish wearing them inside buildings could be accepted. For anyone trying to distract the world from their inner pain, get a pair of mirrored sunglasses. People get so distracted by looking at THEMSELVES in the glasses, that they won't notice the strain life has taken on you. Now, this is obviously not a solution for your pain, however, on those days that you need a disguise - a hat will not cover it! If my eyes are the windows to my soul, sometimes I just need to block the average person from being able to see it.
