Please don't put glitter on your eye bags. Please, just don't.
I had an important meeting and didn't want to look like complete crap, so I used my full gamut of makeup tips and tricks, so I thought I would share it with you. You may be a new mom, suffer from insomnia, been bingeing on a new Netflix show, whatever... anyone that needs to look more awake should give these tips a try:
1. Tinted Moisturizer
Rather than using a moisturizer and foundation, simplify. My favorite is the tinted moisturizer from Arbonne. Any BB cream would really do the job, but Arbonne's gives a really good finish.
2. Bronzer
Even if you skip foundation or moisturizer altogether, use bronzer. It makes it look like you have blood flowing through your body - a good sign of life, when you feel like death. Shadow your cheekbones and lift your eyes by going around the upper frame of your forehead.

3. Light, Shimmery Eyeshadow
If you have time, put a quick swipe of a light shimmery shadow on your eyelids. Really try to get the inside of the eye, closest to the nose. The whole way to win this game is to help your eyes look more awake.
4. Eyeliner
I prefer a liquid eyeliner, because it goes on faster and easier. I don't always have the best control on my hands or fingers, but I can usually manage a line. I only line the upper lid. I NEVER line the bottom. Why? If it smudges or smears at all, it will just add to the shadows and bags I am trying to hide!
5. Lashes
Lashes are super important! They lift your eyes up and can instantly make them look more awake! My favorite mascara of all time is the Younique 4D mascara. This is their one step mascara - less steps the better. Like the liner, only put the mascara on the top lashes. This also helps if you think you are going to cry. Full out sobbing? You're screwed anyway, because the top lashes will be affected. But a light cry, you should be safe. Another option is false lash strips. They take a lot more time, but for those special occasions, that extra effort is worth it! My favorite lash brand and glue is Kiss. One last thought on lashes - if you can afford it, lash extensions are beyond heroic. No daily routine and you instantly are camera ready!
6. Brows
Truth talk: unkempt brows can make you look haggard. If no one else is going to tell you that, then let it be me. If we are trying to pretend we are a little more put together than we actually are, a $6 threading session can do wonders. You can always grab a brow pencil that has one of those little brushes on the end to help shape them and smooth them over, but if you just keep up on them professionally, you will thank me later. One more tip as far as brows go - be careful of shape! Brows can show emotion: anger, fear, sadness, happiness. Make sure you get a neutral or happy look when you get them professionally shaped.

7. Bold Colors
Avoid bold, heavy colors on your eyes. We are trying to awaken them, so keep them light. If you want to add some pop to your makeup, do it on your lips. Bright colors on your lips can help liven up all the colors on your face! Younique liquid lipsticks offer some awesome color choices!

Regardless, you are just finding a way to fake it. A smile goes a thousand miles! Forcing a smile can create an actual smile. And once you are home and done for the day, try to get a good night's sleep!
